Pacific Islands Law Officers' Network
PILON is a network of senior public law officers from Pacific Island countries, including Australia and New Zealand, which focuses on common legal issues within the Pacific region. PILON was established in 1982 and holds meetings annually.
At the 25th meeting in Kiribati in February 2007, PILON changed its name from the Pacific Islands Law Officers’ Meeting (PILOM), reflecting members’ desire for emphasis to be placed on the information-sharing role of the organisation.
The Australian Government Attorney-General’s Department currently hosts the PILON Secretariat in Canberra on an interim basis. The Secretariat is a contact point to engage with senior law officers of the Pacific on issues relevant to the government legal sector.
The PILON Secretariat currently requires a Secretariat Coordinator to be based in Apia, Samoa. Details of this position can be found on the Pacific job opportunities page of this website.
In December 2009 Samoa hosted the 28th PILON meeting.
